Zurich’s AI Momentum: In Conversation with Lauren Hawker Zafer, Chief Operating Officer at Squirro AG

In our latest Swiss AI Summit Interview Series, we had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren Hawker Zafer, Chief Operating Officer at Squirro AG - a leading Swiss company delivering enterprise-ready Generative AI and Decision Intelligence solutions. With over 15 years of experience in global leadership, brand strategy and AI-driven transformation, Lauren has played a pivotal role in shaping Squirro’s vision: to make proven, explainable, and impactful AI accessible for enterprises worldwide.

Headquartered in Zurich, Squirro AG is recognized for combining advanced machine learning, natural language processing, and knowledge graph technologies to help organizations unlock the full value of their data. Their platforms are trusted by clients across industries, empowering teams to make smarter, faster and more data-driven decisions.

At the Swiss AI Summit 2025, Lauren shared her perspective on Zurich’s growing position in the global AI ecosystem and how the convergence of emerging technologies is accelerating the next phase of innovation.

How would you describe Zurich's position in the global AI landscape?

Now being in the AI space, we know that Zurich has now been coined about four or five times this year as the new Silicon Valley. If we are the new Silicon Valley, time will tell, but one thing that we're extremely excited about is that there's such a wonderful ecosystem and network of partners, organizations and individuals that are enthusiastic about AI and the use of AI. This is without question, because AI is at the nucleus, of the convergence, of the biggest technologies at this point of the Industrial Revolution.

At the moment, AI is the nucleus of five core technologies and without AI, there would not have been the extensive development, impact and speed of the evolution of these technologies.

How is this technological convergence playing out in practice?

We've seen advancements in genome development and in how AI is impacting blockchain and cryptocurrency. There are numerous use cases and statistics that show that AI has supercharged this convergence and development of surrounding technologies, so everyone is excited and one thing that we're really excited about as well is being part of the Swiss AI Summit as a partner.

Squirro is looking forward to presenting itself there and also working closely with all of the industries that will join us together with the organizers of the Swiss AI Summit. So we look forward to seeing you there.
